  Gemstones

Semiprecious stones like garnet, kyanite, tourmaline, aquamarine/ beryl; and precious stones like ruby, sapphire etc. are known from different parts of the country.
(a) Tourmaline: Gem quality tourmaline is known from Hyakule and Phakuwa(Sankhuwasabha) and Jajarkot. Small-scale mines of aquamarine, beryl, tourmalines are in operation. About Pegmatites of Langtang valley (Rasuwa) and Naje (Manang), Jajarkot and Ilam are also promising for beryl/ aquamarine and tourmaline.
(b) Beryl/ Aquamarine: Hambergite, danburite, and ijolite are known from Taplejung, Gem quality aquamarine of Phakuwa (Sakhuwasabha), aquamarine/ beryl and few green coloured tourmalines from Naje and few other localities in Manang district are reported. Lekhpatan and Tikachaur in Jajarkot; Jagat, Panchmane, Kagtigaon in Kathmandu; Baguwa, Tarkeghyang, Nibuwagaon in Sindhupalchok are the other known places for Beryl.
(c) Garnets are recovered from strongly tectonized lenses and pods of chlorite-biotite-garnet schist within high-grade metamorphic rock sequence and deep red or red coloured almandine, hessonite and pyrope garnet are mined in Nepal. Small-scale garnet mines were in operation since last few decades in Budhekhani, Bhote Khola, Hanglaung, Khining, Sunamla, Swachi Khani in Sankhuwasabha district. Only selected pieces are cut for gem and the rest are used to make beads and abrasive.
(d) Kyanites are known from Dolakha, Rasuwa, Dhadhing and Jajarkot areas. Two small-scale kyanite mines are in operation in Daha Jajarkot district. Elongated tabular inky blue kyanite crystals are cut for gems.
(e) Gem quality red ruby and light to dark blue coloured sapphire are known from Chumar, Ruyil (Dhadhing), Lari
(Ganesh Himal, Rasuwa). Mining of these gemstones Rubies from this area are very famous.

(f) Two small-scale quartz crystals (Rock crystal) mines are in operation
from pegmatites in Khejemi/ Sirku (Taplejung) and Raluka (Nuwakot).
They are also known from different parts of Dailekh, Sakhuwasabha,
Dhadhing and Rasuwa districts. Only coloured verities e.g. amethyst,
